The Newest Dog Breed Recognized by the AKC
The Danish-Swedish Farmdog, a compact working dog also known as the “Little Big Dog” and originally called the Danish Pinscher, became the 202nd breed to be recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2025 after 14 years in the AKC FSS (Foundation Stock Services) Program.
As a part of the AKC FSS, which is an optional record-keeping service for all purebred dogs not currently registrable with the AKC, breeds can compete in companion events and may enter into the Miscellaneous Class so long as they have 150 dogs with three-generation pedigrees.
