The Opportunity
Our client is in the Specialty Chemical sector and is looking for someone to lead Continuous Improvement (CI) projects using a DMAIC approach to identify procedural and/or process changes that improve efficiency, quality, reliability, and cost reduction. The selected candidate will be the primary Change Agent in the plant’s transition from a reactive to proactive culture through the development of a Continuous Improvement program. A successful candidate will have experience in driving improvements using Continuous Improvement tools such as 5S, SMED, VSM, RCA, and others.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and communicate a Continuous Improvement vision that transforms the plant to a proactive culture.
- Actively coordinate and support the implementation of continuous improvement systems.
- Train, coach and motivate personnel in the understanding and adoption of new principles and techniques related to Continuous Improvement, such as: standard work, variation reduction, 5S, SMED, VSM, RCA, and others.
- Manage Lean and/or Six Sigma projects by leading cross-functional teams to identify procedural and process changes that will improve efficiency, improve quality, reduce cost, improve sustainability, and maximize profitability.
- Assess process capabilities including equipment utilization, staffing, and supply chain.
- Monitor process performance compared to capabilities and generate recommendations for process improvements.
- Identify process constraints and monitor performance through the use of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Assist in troubleshooting, upgrading, and testing of processes and equipment.
- Develop best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of output through the use of standard work and/or automation.
- Perform risk assessments.
- Provide process documentation and operating instructions.
- Participate in new projects and provide data where applicable.
- Coordinate with EHS on ergonomic and safety issues.
- Regular and reliable attendance is expected.
- Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university and 3-5 years of manufacturing experience in a relevant work environment.
Other Desirable Skills
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD
- Good interpersonal, organizational, presentation, and communication skills (written and spoken English)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks or projects and meet deadlines
- Experience with Minitab preferred
- Lean and/or Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred
- Knowledge/experience with process programming, control strategies, and instrumentations is a plus
