SOCMA SUMMIT 2025
At the SOCMA Summit on October 22, Jeff Bennett, Associate Partner and Specialty Chemical Team Lead, had the opportunity to speak on the growing urgency of succession planning and leadership readiness in the specialty chemical industry. Rather than waiting for a vacancy to trigger change, there needs to be an emphasis on building a proactive, data-driven approach to leadership pipelines to avoid the risk of unplanned disruptions and loss of critical knowledge.
Key insights from the session:
- If you had a leadership gap tomorrow, do you know who would step in? Many companies don’t, and that’s where risk begins.
- Internal readiness isn’t guaranteed. Even strong performers can fail if not intentionally developed through coaching, cross-functional exposure, and leadership skill-building.
- You can’t speed up experience, but you can prepare for it. Strategic stretch roles and development plans matter more than title.
- If you don’t have the talent internally, hire before it’s urgent. Look for cultural fit, learning agility, and industry awareness, not just “ready on day one.”
- Retention is part of succession. Top talent stays where leadership is intentional, career paths are visible, and work feels meaningful, long before compensation is discussed.
Future leadership stability begins with intentional Talent Intelligence today, not reaction tomorrow.
Connect with Jeff to continue the discussion.
