Tips for Getting Along and Being a Team Player at Work
It’s a fact. We spend more time at our place of work than we do at our homes and it puts us in contact with people for quite a bit of our lives. The challenge in the workplace is making sure that you are a team player and are able to get along with all the personalities you could encounter. Here are a few tips on how you can do these things while maintaining your workflow.
Have an Open Door Policy
Being accessible either as a manager or a coworker is essential to the team and to getting along. When your coworkers know they can approach you at any time to get answers to their questions, it leads to a growth in productivity and a reduction in errors. It allows the camaraderie to be strong on the team.
Go the Extra Mile
As the old proverb goes, “If someone asks you to walk a mile, walk two.” Going the extra mile to make the team a success can do wonders in working relationships and giving the team a decisive leap forward in any project they are working on.
Showing that you are willing to go further than asked instills trust in both your leadership and the coworkers around you. There is nothing more infuriating than someone who doesn’t do what they promised or only does the bare minimum.
Be Reliable and Honest
There is nothing more sought after in the workforce than reliability. Being a coworker who will accomplish what he promises is worth more than the most energetic go-getters. If someone doesn’t have to follow-through to complete the tasks they promised, then no amount of positive attitude will change someone’s opinion.
Being honest with expectations is also essential. It is beneficial and shows responsibility when you are able to be honest and upfront about any issue or situation. Nothing can hinder a team quicker than someone who is unable to handle something, yet isn’t open and honest enough to ask for help.
Follow these easy steps and work will be more enjoyable and rewarding for you and your team.
